How can you tell if someone is a serious person?

There is a surprisingly simple answer to this really important question when you are looking to work with someone. We've all been through our share of working relationships where everything starts out great, and then we start finding out about all these obstacles which are making it difficult for us to work together.

This is because in the beginning things are simple, and simple is easy. Anyone can do simple, so if the job itself is simple things tend to kind of work themselves out on their own. However, we want to know how these people will be when things get tough.

The best way of figuring this out, or just getting a glimpse into how things might go is by looking at what they have done before when they have achieved good results, and trying to figure out what they gave up in order to get themselves into a position to do good.

Once you figure out what they have sacrificed you will get the proof that they actually gave up something willingly in order to trade for the time and capacity to be able to improve a different aspect of themselves. This demonstrates a mature enough approach to their work that it is safe to assume they will be a good coworker on hard projects, and during hard times.

If they are not willing to sacrifice a part of their life to become better or to contribute to a thing they are a part of to become better, they are either juniors or posers.
