People Sayings

I was just talking to Jovana, and an interesting thought about sayings came to me. It is amazing how true and in place they can be.

We are in a process of trying to find a place to go to for our summer vacation, and since it is not just up to us (we are going with friends) it is basically a series of compromises we all need to make in order to respect everyone’s needs and wishes. While going through all this, I’ve found these two sayings to be the best:

Serbian

Kad je bal, nek’ je bal.

Loose translation would be “when it’s a party, make it a party.” People tend to use this one when they are calculating how much will something cost (usually an event), when they realize it’s probably going to cost more than they had planned, or even have – they say this meaning “who gives a fuck, if we’re partying, we’ll make it the best party ever.”

English

When it rains, it pours.

This is a saying I am in a position to use almost every week. You can relate it to a whole bunch of situations, but mainly it is associated with low times and when things start falling down (or they appear to.) For example, you may keep a low pace at work, and then all of a sudden a flood of requests, RFPs and whatnot comes over you and you can’t catch a breather.

Do you have any favorites? Please, do share.
